چکیده

Abstract Landslide dams, forming when a landslide blocks watercourse, are significant components of slope-river systems. Dams can fail suddenly and catastrophically, threatening downstream populations structures. So it is important to understand where they could form, how long persist in the landscape, extent inundation once fail. To investigate dam formation, longevity, stability effectively Aotearoa New Zealand, we present version 1.0 Zealand Dam Database (NZLDD). The database includes compilation, mapping, and/or remapping 1036 including those generated by 2016 Kaikōura Earthquake. A representative subset 265 dams was selected analyse breaching detail (ongoing work). architecture, description datasets included, attribute definitions, some summary statistics presented here. Many have formed greywacke bedrock terrain, earthquake-triggered rock avalanches, falls, slides. Most small (Dam Type I—small that does not reach opposite valley side), since failed no longer impede or impound water. NZLDD represents increase catalogued dams—almost doubling existing number known studied worldwide.

A Mathematical Model for Forecasting the Dam-Break Flood Routing Process of a Landslide Dam

Once a landslide dam bursts, its reservoir discharges quickly in a flood which will cause catastrophic damage to life and property downstream. For a specific landslide dam, the peak flow rate and the evolution of downstream flood are influenced by the shape and size of the dike breach when dam-break occurs. According to the general nature of landslide dams and field observations of dike-breach ...

Assessment methodology for the prediction of landslide dam hazard

This paper represents a contribution to the study of hazard caused by the interaction between landslides and river courses. The effects of such interferences are often catastrophic and could include the formation of upstream lakes, potential dam failure, river bed dynamics and morphological alterations. These scenarios could be substantially reduced if it was possible to predict the eventuality...

Experimental Research on the Dam-Break Mechanisms of the Jiadanwan Landslide Dam Triggered by the Wenchuan Earthquake in China

Dam breaks of landslide dams are always accompanied by large numbers of casualties, a large loss of property, and negative influences on the downstream ecology and environment. This study uses the Jiadanwan landslide dam, created by the Wenchuan earthquake, as a case study example. Several laboratory experiments are carried out to analyse the dam-break mechanism of the landslide dam. The differ...

The 1786 earthquake-triggered landslide dam and subsequent dam-break flood on the Dadu river, southwestern China

Forensic studies of past hydraulic structure failures are rare despite their critical relevance to modern hydraulic design, and the writers (Dai et al., 2005) must be congratulated for their outstanding study. Herein the discussion is focused on two aspects of the conclusion. It is believed that dam overtopping was the primary cause of the Dadu river landslide dam failure, although aftershocks ...
